Hortus Nailworks

Hortūs Nailworks is a lush nail salon located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, right off the NE corner of the Sara D. Roosevelt Park. During the colder months of the year foliage is especially rare, so it was a real treat to spend an afternoon in a place so abundant with life. This little oasis saturated with greenery, provides excellent services that utilize organic alternatives to traditional beauty products.

The only criteria I consider before choosing a salon or spa is cleanliness and reasonable pricing, both of which I found here. The manicures range from 15 to 48 dollars and the pedicures from 25 to 70 dollars. The spa offers a great assortment of Essie and Zoya polishes, as well as a variety of other products that are hand selected from local businesses. 

Hortūs offers an additional service called sugaring. It's an alternative to waxing that's hypoallergenic, natural, and free of chemicals, fragrances and dyes. I haven't tried it, but was told that it is highly effective in removing hair and that it leaves the skin soft, rather than irritated.

The owner did a wonderful job in creating a clean and calm environment. The minimalistic and rustic design is perfectly complimented by the many green hues the plants provide. Complimentary tea is offered and jazz is the music of choice. It's heavenly!

I've been to many New York nail salons that have minimal aesthetic appeal and lack in quality, so I was delighted to find one that actually excels in both. 

If you're in need of a new spa, I would highly recommend checking out this hidden gem. 

P.S. The owner informed me that the space also doubles as an event venue. The place is quite small, but I think it would be perfect for a spa or cocktail party.
